2023 Toyota GR 86 Special Edition Will Sell Like Hot Cakes
One year removed from the launch of the second generation, the Toyota GR 86 sports coupe comes back with a Special Edition model for 2023.
How special is it? Well, only 20 units will be available in all of Canada.

Built on the GR86 Premium, the 2023 GR 86 Special Edition definitely won’t go unnoticed. First of all, the bright Solar Shift orange paint colour is exclusive to this model and complete with a new, debossed GR logo. Next, a cat-back performance exhaust system with stainless steel pipes and black chrome tips is mounted underneath. Drivers can expect to leave a deep, growling auditory signature in their wake.
The 18-inch wheels in a matte black finish are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires for enhanced grip, but so are those of the GR 86 Premium. Inside, the Ultrasuede- and leather-trimmed cabin is complete with a GR special edition badge.
Alas, there are no changes to the 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, which produces the same 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Customers can choose between a manual transmission and an automatic, both with six forward gears. The former enables quicker 0-100 km/h sprints (6.3 seconds versus 6.8 seconds), but the latter reduces fuel consumption (combined 9.6 L/100 km versus 10.5 L/100 km).
Pricing for the 2023 Toyota GR 86 including the new Special Edition will be announced closer to launch. Models will be available at Toyota dealerships later this year.
