Insane 1983 Subaru GL Wagon to Star in Upcoming Gymkhana
The crazy dudes at Hoonigan have just unveiled the new car that will star in the next instalment of the Gymkhana series. We guess not too many of you predicted it would be a 1983 Subaru GL Wagon, right?
Last time we checked, Ken Block passed the torch to his buddy Travis Pastrana, who used an 862-horsepower, modern-day Subaru WRX STi to go wild in the streets of Annapolis, Maryland.

Pastrana will be back behind the wheel, and while he didn’t give an exact number, we hear that the heavily modified GL will unleash close to 900 horsepower.
Consider this: the original wagon from 1983, which you can see alongside the new creation in the picture below, was roughly 12 times less powerful with a max of 71 horsepower.
As for the design, Pastrana’s ride was penned with help from world-renowned concept artist Khyzyl “The Kyza” Saleem, who previously contributed to Ken Block’s 1977 Ford F-150 “HOONITRUCK.” The custom, widebody-style bodywork features massive fender flares and a full aero kit that’s made entirely from lightweight carbon fibre. The meaty Yokohama tires are something to behold, too.
Compared to the WRX STi, Pastrana says the boxy exterior will give him more control when jumping in the air while also providing a better peripheral view when navigating through obstacles.
We can’t wait to see the mean and almighty 1983 Subaru GL Wagon put on a show in the next Gymkhana video, which will be released later in 2022.
