2022 Volkswagen Jetta Pricing Announced, GLI is Cheaper Than Civic Si
The Volkswagen Jetta is refreshed and upgraded for 2022, and we now have pricing details for the various trim levels. The first units will arrive at Canadian dealerships early next year.
Unsurprisingly, customers will have to pay more, but the hike is reasonable. We’re talking about $1,000 for the base 2022 Jetta Trendline, which starts at $22,595 plus $1,750 destination.

Standard equipment includes new 16-inch wheels in a two-tone design, LED headlights and taillights, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a new eight-inch digital instrument panel. The 6.5-inch centre touchscreen is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As for safety, look for forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
Priced at $25,595, the mid-level Jetta Comfortline stands out with 17-inch dark graphite alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry with push-button start, an eight-inch centre touchscreen with voice control and SiriusXM satellite radio, as well as wireless connectivity and charging for smartphones. Comfort is enhanced by automatic climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat and synthetic leather seating surfaces, while additional safety features include blind spot monitoring, rear trafic alert, adaptive cruise control and more.
There is an available Sport package with exclusive wheels, a black grille, window trim and mirror caps, sport bumper, stiffer suspension and electronic locking differential, not to mention a sunroof, interior ambient lighting (with 10 selectable colours) and 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, among other things.
Next, you’ll find the Jetta Highline at $29,595 (automatic transmission only). This one has new-look 17-inch alloy wheels, an adaptive front lighting system, ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, eight-speaker BeatsAudio system and satellite navigation.
All of these 2022 Jetta models are motivated by a new turbocharged 1.5-litre engine found in the Taos compact SUV, making 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. With the first two, you can replace the standard six-speed manual gearbox by an eight-speed automatic for an extra $1,400.
Don’t Forget the GLI
Standing at the top of the range is the sporty Jetta GLI, of course, which continues to rely on a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that produces 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. For 2022, the price is up $600 to $31,595 with the manual transmission or $32,995 with the seven-speed dual-clutch unit.
It’s still the better equipped model, too. Highlights include an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, adaptive damping system, drive mode selector, sport exhaust and unique 18-inch black alloy wheels. Inside, the signature sport seats and red contrast stitching are back.
By the way, the 2022 Jetta GLI is a tad more affordable than its main competitor, the Honda Civic Si, which is all-new for 2022 and costs $33,150.
