Tesla Model 3, Model Y Facing Yet Another Loose Bolt Problem
Tesla is selling electric cars in record numbers right now, but various manufacturing and quality issues continue to surface.
This time, a little over 3,000 units will have to be recalled in North America including 270 in Canada. The campaign affects the 2019-2021 Model 3 sedan and 2020-2021 Model Y crossover.

In some cases, the bolts that attach the front suspension lateral links to the sub-frame may not be properly tightened and could loosen over time. As a result, the lateral links could separate from the sub-frame and suddenly compromise wheel alignment.
Tesla says the loose component will be audible before it completely separates, so if you hear any clunking noises coming from the suspension, you’ll know what it is.
While the number of units being recalled isn’t very high, it’s not the sort of problem to be taken lightly. For the record, as of June 2021, there were about 40 reported instances of one or both front suspension lateral link bolts being found loose or missing.
Tesla will notify owners by e-mail and arrange for an inspection of the front lateral link bolts. Tesla Service will tighten or replace the bolts, as necessary.
Incidentally, two more recalls affecting the Model 3 and Model Y also involve inadequately tightened bolts, more specifically in the front seat belt assemblies s and brake callipers.
