First 2022 Kia EV6 Units All Pre-ordered in a Couple of Hours
The all-new Kia EV6 electric crossover will launch in Canada next spring, if everything goes according to plan. The company began accepting pre-orders at noon on Friday, October 22 via the EV6 microsite.
In what shouldn’t come as a surprise, the 200 units that were initially available were all scooped up in less than two hours. And that’s without customers knowing about the price, yet putting down a $500 deposit.
More specifically, those 200 units were mid-level GT-Line models. The only option was the body colour: Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black Pearl, Runway Red, Yacht Blue or Steel Gray Matte. Reservation holders also had to choose among the three closest EV-certified Kia dealerships from their postal code.
As is the case in Europe, where sales have already started, the Kia EV6 is generating plenty of interest in Canada—similar to its platform-sharing cousin, the Hyundai IONIQ 5. It’s a highly promising electric vehicle that combines practicality and sporty looks with long range and fast charging. Slotting between the Sportage and Sorento in terms of length, it stands out with a lower profile and roomier cabin.
As previously reported, a 58-kWh battery will be on the menu for base models eventually, but the larger 77.4-kWh battery will be offered exclusively at launch in Canada. The latter offers an estimated range of 480 kilometres.
What’s more, thanks to the 800V high-speed multi-charging system of the EV6, a quick charge for 4.5 minutes would give you 100 kilometres of range. It takes less than 18 minutes to charge from 10-80 percent, Kia claims.
The only key detail missing at this time is the price. Will the EV6 start under $45,000 and thus qualify for the $5,000 electric vehicle rebate from the federal government? We should find out soon.
