FOR SALE: 2002 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning
The air is fully charged with electricity as Ford prepares to jolt the Lightning moniker back to life in the form of a fully electric F-150 on May 19th. Although we’re expecting this newcomer to create quite the buzz, its powertrain won’t be pounding out as much thunder as the original Ford F-150 SVT Lighting did with its supercharged V8.
In order to properly send off the old gas-powered Lightning name – and indulge in some sweet automotive reminiscing at the same time, we found a very clean example of a 2002 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning finished in Bright Red Clearcoat over a gray and black interior on Bringatrailer.com. The odometer states that this super-sleek pickup truck travelled 48,000 miles (77,249 kilometres) before its current owner decided to throw it in the currently very hungry used car market.

With the launch of the new F-150 Lighting electric pickup truck, the timing couldn’t be better!
Blue Oval Muscle
Although the Ford F-150 SVT Lighting pickup truck was equipped with a proper bed and was quite powerful, it wasn’t much of a workhorse. It was more like a very powerful style statement, with its unique bumpers, side skirts as well as a side-exit exhaust system.
Its supercharged 5.4-liter V8 dished out 380 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque and was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. It could go from 0 to 60 mph in under 6 seconds, which is still impressive to this day for a pickup truck.
This specific example rolls on cast aluminum 18″ wheels wrapped in 295/45 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS tires. Red-painted calipers paired with four-wheel discs with slotted front rotors are in charge of stopping the truck. Additional equipment includes an aftermarket air intake and a Borla cat-back exhaust system.
An Exclusive Part of SVT History
As it was developed by Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT), it comes with a certificate which lists it as #1,817 of 4,726 Lightnings built for the 2002 model year.
The current bid stands at 20,000 $US, but with all the excitement expected around the new F-150 Lightning during the next days, we expect this amount to get bigger.

Evidently, the new Lightning will be light years ahead of this original in terms of technology, but most importantly in terms of torque!
