The Car Guide's Best Buys for 2021: Ford Mustang
Every year, The Car Guide unveils a list of Best Buys covering all the different vehicle categories in the industry.
Sports cars are some of the most desirable vehicles on the market, and for 2021 there’s no better choice than the Ford Mustang.

The iconic pony car is available in coupe and convertible body styles with a variety of engines ranging from a turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder to the Shelby GT500’s fearsome 5.2-litre V8.
The base mill is a decent enough performer, though it does not offer the same fun and excitement as the big, muscular V8s, including the one found in the new-for-2021 Mustang Mach 1. Replacing the Bullitt, this sharp-handling model slots between the classic Mustang GT and the top-line Shelby GT500.
The Other Finalists
The runner-up for our Best Buy award this year is the Mazda MX-5, which comes with either a classic soft top or a folding hard top in RF (Retractable Fastback) trim.
The latest edition beautifully maintains the tradition of the original Miata—a lightweight and extremely agile roadster that delivers good performance without punishing occupants. The 181-horsepower, 2.0-litre engine is fuel-efficient, too. The MX-5 is easily one of the most fun cars to drive at reasonable speeds.
As for third place, we picked the Toyota GR Supra, a surprising Japanese coupe sharing its platform with the BMW Z4. For 2021, there’s a new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower, while the returning 3.0-litre six-cylinder gets a nice boost to 382 horsepower.
The new Supra is strong and quite pleasant to drive, with precise steering and great handling Too bad visibility is so compromised. The dark interior is definitely not suited for claustrophobic drivers.
