GMC Reveals Hummer EV SUV

After solidifying the return of the Hummer nameplate last fall with the introduction of a 100% electric pickup truck, GMC is now unveiling the Hummer SUV. This newcomer is built on the same architecture as the Hummer EV pickup truck, and it can be geared with the same cool features.

For example, it’s offered with the famous CrabWalk mode, which will allow the vehicle to move diagonally thanks to directional rear wheels. The GMC Hummer EV SUV will be powered by the GM/LG Chem co-developed Ultium battery, giving it a range of up to 482 kilometres – as per GMC.

Engineered to Go Anywhere

Available in several configurations that use one, two or three electric motors, the Hummer SUV will provide up to 830 horsepower under the pedal, as well as a mind-boggling 11,500 lb-ft of torque (measured at the wheels). GMC gives very few details about the performance metrics, but it is underlined that the versions with three engines will be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in about 3.5 seconds.

Jump-starting the Hummer name meant axing gas engines for General Motors, but the off-road capabilities that made this military-bred vehicle so successful stayed on board. For example, GMC promises “impressive” ground clearance as well as attack and departure angles.

An optional Extreme Off-Road package, which will include 35-inch tires, skid plates and the UltraVision system which incorporates cameras to facilitate off-road maneuvers will also be available.

Patience...

Alas, one will have to be very patient to acquire a GMC Hummer EV SUV. The vehicle will go into production early 2023 as a 2024 model. The first version available will be the Edition 1, a fully equipped, three-engine variant priced at $ 125,898 in Canada. An extra $ 6,000 will add the Extreme Off-Road package, and if all goes as planned, a twin-engine version will follow sometime during spring 2023. After that, the base one-engine variant will arrive a year later with an MSRP of $ 88,898.

All this is still far away, but GMC is already accepting reservations for this product. The pickup version of the GMC Hummer is scheduled for fall 2022.
