Corvette-inspired Electric Crossover May Get the Green Light
The new, eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette has been a huge success so far, production issues aside. More powerful versions are coming, too, but it appears General Motors wants to make another bold move to boost sales.
Just like Ford introduced an electric crossover inspired by the legendary Mustang, the Mustang Mach-E, GM is reportedly working on a strategy to build at least one new electric vehicle inspired by the Corvette. And too bad for purists, but this vehicle could very well be a cross between the iconic sports coupe and an SUV.

The report comes from Bloomberg, which received information from company insiders familiar with the matter.
According to them, Chevrolet designers are currently working on several Corvette-brand concept vehicles that target a wider range of buyers. The basic idea is to combine the Corvette’s performance credentials and racy styling with creature comforts such as more interior room and storage.
Don’t hold your breath, however. A Corvette-inspired SUV or crossover would not go on sale before 2025, well after the launch of the new Corvette Z06, Corvette ZR1 and the rumoured 1,000-horsepower Corvette Zora paying tribute to the famous engineer who helped create the original.
The desire to expand and diversify the Corvette lineup is nothing new. Design studies have reportedly been pitched to GM’s top brass in the past 20 years, but none of them came to fruition. With the 2020 Corvette, Chevrolet shocked a number of enthusiasts by adopting a mid-mounted engine and dramatically changing the car’s silhouette, but that’s nothing compared to a possible SUV.
Right now, GM is focusing on the launch of its new generation of electric vehicles including the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac LYRIQ. Earlier this week, the automaker also unveiled an electric delivery van during the virtual edition of CES. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, a crossover based on the electric hatchback, will debut by summer.
