Hyundai Plans to Have Seven N Performance Models By 2023
In addition to hosting the virtual North American debut of the new 2022 Tucson on Monday, Hyundai made several announcements regarding its future products. The most important one calls for seven new N and N Line models to join the lineup by the end of 2022.
If you’re not too familiar with how the Korean automaker’s performance division works, the main thing you have to remember is that “N Line” models are slightly sportier versions of traditional production vehicles, while pure “N” models crank things up to the max. It’s a bit like Honda with Si and Type R variants of the Civic or Volkswagen with GTI and R variants of the Golf.

So, there will be three N models and four N Line models:
We already know the Veloster N, Sonata N Line and Elantra N Line. The Tucson N Line will go on sale next year and Hyundai has just given us a few teasers like this one:
Another member of the N family will be the highly anticipated Elantra N, pictured below wearing camouflage and sporting unique wheels, brake callipers and rear spoiler. An official reveal should take place sometime in the next few weeks:
While the Elantra N Line gets a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine producing 201 horsepower, all signs point to this racier and more explosive version housing a 2.5-litre turbo rated at around 275 horsepower.
Now, what about the other two models under that red veil? Hyundai wants to create suspense, but in reality one of them is the Kona N Line we saw a few weeks ago. The other is likely the full-blown Kona N that’s been the topic of many rumours and spy shots for the past year.
One thing’s for sure, Hyundai is going to great lengths to infuse performance and excitement into its range of once-uninspiring vehicles. Think the Santa Fe and Palisade feel left out?
