Updated 2021 GMC Sierra Trucks Make Towing Even Easier
General Motors cannot realistically catch the Ford F-150 in terms of sales, especially with the latter coming to market this fall with a brand new generation, but that doesn’t mean it should wait a year or two to make some upgrades.
After launching a completely redesigned GMC Sierra for 2019 and announcing several updates for 2020, the manufacturer is at it again, promising several extras and enhancements with the 2021 Sierra 1500, 2500HD and 3500HD models. Those who have to tow on a regular basis will be happy.

“We know that our Canadian Sierra HD customers purchase their trucks for towing,” said Michael MacPhee, GMC Canada brand director. “Whether our customers tow a boat, RV, off-road toys or anything in-between our 2021 Sierra’s new and enhanced available trailering tech features can help drivers tow like a pro.”
What is he talking about exactly? For starters, with the new Trailer Length Indicator (activated at the same time as the turn signal), the centre screen displays a red overlay twice the length of the trailer and shows when other vehicles are present and may interfere with a lane-change manoeuvre.
Also new for 2021, Jack-Knife Alert tracks the position of the trailer in relation to the pickup. If the front of the trailer approaches the rear of the vehicle, an alert is displayed when there may be a potential jack-knife situation, thus preventing damage.
As you know, the GMC Sierra’s many available cameras offer up to 15 different views. Rear Side View, which provides a split view of the left and right sides of the truck and trailer, is now accessible while driving in reverse, as well. Rear Trailer View has been enhanced to include guidelines that assist when backing a trailer into place and a Trailer-Angle Indicator to show the relationship between the truck and trailer. As for the Cargo Bed View, a new zoom feature and bed hitch guidance can be helpful for aligning and hooking up a gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailer.
Other additions to the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 include increased availability of the MultiPro tailgate on SLE and Elevation trims, as well as a new selection of colours. The AT4 model is available with 20-inch tires and an off-road high-clearance step.
Over to the Sierra HD, HD Surround Vision and Bed View camera technology are now standard on Denali. The new Black Diamond Edition will have several unique features, including exclusive 20-inch high-gloss black wheels and new power-retractable assist steps. The MultiPro tailgate comes standard on SLE, while AT4 can be specified with 18-inch Mud Terrain tires and an off-road high clearance step.
The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD should arrive in showrooms by the end of this year.
