Genesis GV80 Set to Arrive in Canada This Fall as Planned

Unveiled at the beginning of the year, the all-new 2021 Genesis GV80—the first-ever SUV from the young Korean luxury brand—will arrive in Canada this fall as originally planned. Ditto for the freshly updated 2021 G80 midsize sedan.

Genesis Canada communication manager Jarred Pellat confirmed the news to Automotive News Canada earlier today.

In the U.S., these two models were supposed to go on sale in the summer, but that won’t happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Just like us, American customers will now have to wait until fall to take delivery of their vehicle.

Genesis has been hit hard by the coronavirus along with the rest of the auto industry. Sales during the first half of 2020 dropped 40 percent in Canada and 25 percent south of the border compared to the same period in 2019.

The company is banking on its new models, particularly the GV80, to recover. This midsize SUV will try to steal market shares from the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the like with prices ranging from $64,500-$85,000 (including freight and delivery, the Genesis at Home concierge service, complimentary scheduled maintenance, Genesis Connected Services, map updates and more for five years or 100,000 kilometres).

Furthermore, the GV80 is available in five- and seven-passenger configurations, the former with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and the latter with a twin-turbo V6 rated at 375 horsepower.

You can pre-order a copy now by making a $1,000 fully refundable deposit at www.genesis.ca/GV80.
