Meet the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S and its 603 Horses
The eternal battle between Mercedes-Benz and BMW is getting quite heated these days. It all started with the debut of their updated midsize cars earlier this spring. Now, just a few hours after the announcement of the 2021 BMW M5, here comes the new 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63!
Available in sedan and wagon body styles, the missile from Stuttgart boasts a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine that delivers 563 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque in base trim (which we won't get in Canada) or 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet in S trim. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h requires a mere 3.4-3.6 seconds depending on the model.

When you want to relax behind the wheel, just activate Comfort mode and half the cylinders will turn off to save fuel in light-load situations. Other available drive modes include Sport, Sport+, Individual and RACE.
A nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission sends power to all four wheels via an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system featuring a locking rear differential. Like to get sideways? A Drift function is included in RACE mode, giving you the thrills of a purely RWD car.
The 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63 further benefits from an AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with three-level adaptive damping that’s specially designed for maximum handling. There’s also a speed-sensitive electromechanical steering system and AMG high-performance brakes using 360-mm vented and perforated discs at all corners along with six-piston callipers up front. The optional AMG carbon ceramic brakes allow for even quicker stops.
With regard to styling, the AMG-specific grille with the star in the middle is now more prominent, larger air intakes ensure better cooling performance, the car’s profile has been revised for improved aerodynamics, and bigger fenders accommodate the wider tracks and wheels. Speaking of which, new 20-inch light-alloy wheels are part of the mix.
In the rear, the new flatter taillights are connected by a chrome strip and the sedan adds a lip spoiler in body colour or carbon fibre. The redesigned bumper also incorporates a chrome (or black or carbon) strip that takes up the contour of the reshaped twin-tailpipe trim elements.
Three new body paint options are available including graphite grey metallic, high-tech silver metallic and brilliant blue magno, the latter previously reserved for the AMG GT family. AMG Night and AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre packages can seriously add character and even a sinister look to the car.
Inside, look for a widescreen cockpit featuring the MBUX infotainment system and voice control activated with the words "Hey Mercedes." There’s also a new AMG Performance steering wheel and AMG seats appointed in Nappa leather.
Canadian pricing for the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S will be announced closer to launch. In addition to the BMW M5, competition will come from the spectacular Audi RS6 Avant.
