Frankfurt Auto Show to Move to a New City in 2021
Auto shows are not what they used to be. Fewer car companies are choosing to attend these events now, and attendance is decreasing at the same time.
Organizers have to find new ways to keep auto shows relevant. The NAIAS in Detroit, for example, is switching from its traditional January timeslot for new dates in June, where warmer weather will make it possible to set up attractions outside including a European supercar exhibit called Motor Bella.

Now, we’ve learned that the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) a.k.a. the Frankfurt Auto Show will move to a different city in 2021.
For the past three decades or so, the biennial event has taken place on odd-numbered years and has been alternating with the Paris Auto Show since 1998. The last few editions were marked by many absentees including Nissan/Infiniti, Peugeot, Fiat, Jeep and Volvo.
VDA, the German auto industry association which organizes the Frankfurt show, wants to shake things up in an effort to regain popularity.
Berlin, Munich and Hamburg are reportedly the three possible destinations.
