Five Things to Know About the Mustang Mach-E's Infotainment System
As you know, Ford hosted the Canadian premiere of the all-new 2021 Mustang Mach-E at the 2020 Montreal Auto Show.
We’ve already talked about the design, performance, features and pricing of this electric crossover. Now, here are five things you need to know about its infotainment system, which incorporates next-generation SYNC 4 technology:

Massive Screen
The Mustang Mach-E’s interior is dominated by a massive 15.5-inch screen laid out vertically. Of course, we’ve seen similar interfaces before, from the Tesla Model S to the Ram 1500 and the latest Volvo products.
Physical Button
The difference between Ford and Tesla is that the former chose to retain a physical button in the lower part of the screen. For now it merely allows drivers to adjust the audio volume, but at some point in the near future the company says it will control other vehicle functions like cabin temperature or ventilation.
OTA Updates
SYNC 4 was completely revised to be more intuitive and easier to use. How long can it possibly stay up to date in today’s rapidly evolving industry—and discourage drivers from turning to their smartphones? Ford will be answering that question with regular over-the-air updates to the system’s software. Again, that is exactly what Tesla has been doing for the past several years. FCA’s newly unveiled Uconnect 5 will boast similar capability.
Customized Interface
Ford developers came up with a system that can learn driver preferences to improve the overall experience. For example, instead of having to navigate menus every time you want to launch an app, recently used or popular features will be listed underneath the main portion of the screen in individual dash cards. Also, each driver will be able to create a unique profile.
AI in the Future
Future versions of SYNC will be even more capable thanks to the infusion of artificial intelligence. The system will be able to understand complex sentences or execute multiple commands with just a simple order. If you say “Take me to work through the nearest café,” the system will determine the quickest route including a stop at your favourite coffee shop. Ford is a big believer in voice control to eliminate driving distractions and keep drivers’ hands on the steering wheel.
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is scheduled to arrive at dealerships by the end of this year. Have you pre-ordered one yet?
