What is Your Claims History Statement?
This advertorial is brought to you by Groupement des assureurs automobiles (GAA).
You contact a new insurer to find out if you can get a better-priced premium than the one you currently have. The agent you talk to mentions you have three accidents in your file … but what file is she referring to?
The file is your Claims History Statement at the Fichier central des sinistres automobiles (FCSA). The FCSA is a database that tracks all claims filed by Quebec drivers over the past six years. It’s one of the tools your insurer uses to establish your premium. The FCSA is managed by Groupement des assureurs automobiles (GAA).
You can check the information in your file by requesting a copy. Just go to the GAA website and follow the steps shown.
An accident you didn’t declare to your insurer is in your file: why?
The minor accident you had last year appears in your file because the other driver involved declared it to his insurer.
It’s better to declare the accident yourself to your insurer, even if you don’t file a claim. You can give your version of the facts to your insurer, and he can then determine your level of liability in the accident and record it in the FCSA.
The accident you had with your brother’s truck was recorded in your file: why?
In the FCSA, the loss is recorded in the file of the person who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
You notice an error in your file: what should you do?
Once you have a copy of your Claims History Statement, you can have the information contained in the file reviewed by following the procedure that will be transmitted to you.
