New and Improved 2020 Nissan TITAN XD Follows its Little Brother’s Lead
On the heels of the redesigned TITAN, which was unveiled about a month ago in Texas, it’s now the larger Nissan TITAN XD’s turn to get a full slate of upgrades and enhancements for the 2020 model year.
For owners who demand a bit more power and capability, this trucks stands out with a unique reinforced, fully boxed, full-length ladder frame and an extended 151.6-inch wheelbase allowing for a full-size, 6.5-foot bed. Once again, it will be offered exclusively in 4x4 Crew Cab configuration.

While the Cummins turbo-diesel engine has been dropped from the lineup, the 2020 TITAN XD's 5.6-litre Endurance V8 gasoline engine is now rated at 400 horsepower (+10) and 413 pound-feet of torque (+19) and mated to a new nine-speed automatic transmission (previously seven-speed) for more efficiency.
Braking is provided by a robust four-wheel disc system with rear ventilated discs and hydraulic power assist. Durable off-road performance features include Hill Start Assist and Brake Limited-Slip Differential (BLSD). PRO-4X models add standard Hill Descent Control and electronic locking rear differential.
When venturing away from pavement, drivers will also appreciate the enhanced Off Road Gauge that displays the vehicle's tire angle, relative pitch and roll angles. It’s said to be more accurate than the competition at higher speeds.
Towing capacity has not been announced yet, but the 2020 Nissan TITAN XD offers a range of available hitches, including an integrated gooseneck hitch engineered into the frame and easily accessible in the bed. The integrated gooseneck hitch includes a plug inside the bed for even greater ease of towing.
An Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Tow/Haul Mode with Downhill Speed Control and a Trailer Light Check system that allows one-person hook-up operation should make owners happy, too.
Nissan designers in California redesigned their biggest pickup with the same "Powerful Warrior" theme as the regular TITAN. Unique grille designs provide a higher degree of differentiation among trim levels. Also completely redesigned for 2020 are the front bumper and wheel designs (the latter up to 20 inches in size). On PRO-4X models, you’ll notice a new Nissan badge with "lava red" accents.
In the rear, new all-LED lighting has been added to the pickup bed, using four light sources for full surround lighting. The new tailgate finishers, like the grille surrounds, are customized to differentiate trim levels, just like the available body colours and two-tone treatments.
Inside the cabin of the 2020 Nissan TITAN, you can find a new Integrated Command Centre with a 9.0-inch WXGA touchscreen. The latter is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. There’s a new internal Wi-Fi router that allows occupants to pair up to seven devices with a connection speed of up to 45 Mbps. Next-generation NissanConnect allows over-the-air software updates, new safety and security features, HD Traffic and Google Places/Search.
Also available on the 2020 TITAN XD is NissanConnect Services, a suite of convenience and security features that provide assistance, including remote access features and emergency response services. These services can be accessed from inside the vehicle, on a computer, on a smartphone or smartwatch app and with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
Oh, and there’s a new dual-panel panoramic sunroof available on higher trim levels. It’s one of the largest in the segment measuring over three-feet square.
One more thing: Nissan Safety Shield 360 now comes standard on every TITAN XD. It includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and class-exclusive Rear Intelligent Emergency Braking.
Pricing will be revealed closer to the 2020 Nissan TITAN XD’s on-sale date. The current model starts at $49,498 before freight and delivery. Also, Nissan continues to provide Canada's best truck warranty with 5-year/160,000 kilometre bumper-to-bumper coverage.
