Death Defying PT Cruiser Lives On
We’ve lost count of the number of times Chrysler has threatened to kill off the PT Cruiser. Constructed on a platform that was long since replaced by the Caliber and posting relatively slow sales figures every month, there never seemed to be much reason to continue the PT Cruisers construction.
So, Chrysler killed it.
And then brought it back.
And then killed it.
And then brought it back.
And then killed it.
And yes, you’ve guessed it; they’ve just brought it back. Promising to axe the downright decrepit model to stave off bankruptcy woes, the post-bankruptcy Chrysler feels so invigorated that they’ve resurrected the PT Cruiser. Arguing that the PT Cruiser’s new lease on life is validated by the “1.3 million PT Cruisers sold in more than 60 countries since 2000,” Chrysler executives seem to be comfortable dumping yet more money into a vehicle that sold just 50,910 units last year. To put it in perspective, no less than three of the more niche-branded Jeep products bested those figures in 2008.
