Ford Debuts new NASCAR
Just to highlight exactly how far NASCAR has fallen from its former stock-car racing days, Ford has debuted a Mustang-stickered NASCAR for the 2010 season. The first foray for the most successful nameplate in racing history, the Mustang-stickered NASCAR will appear in the Nationwide Cup on a limited scale for 2010, with a full roll out expected for the 2011 season. In the lower Sprint Cup Ford will retain the existing body style in hopes of further differentiating their efforts in the two series.
But as successful as the Mustang has been in its long history of motorsports competition, NASCAR is just not suited to the pony car styling of the Mustang, and Ford’s decision to use it as a springboard for the new Mustang’s success just demonstrates how far removed the 21st Century’s NASCAR is from its roots.
