This Rebuilt and Modified Ford Excursion Will Meet all Your Space Needs
Remember the gigantic Ford Excursion, which was built on an F-250 chassis? Introduced for the 2000 model year as a direct rival of the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL, it is the longest and heaviest mass-produced SUV of all time.
Production of the Excursion ended in 2005 and Ford quickly replaced it with a long-wheelbase MAX version of the Expedition using the F-150 chassis. Despite its very short existence, the Excursion enjoyed a strong following. Even today, some people scour the used-car market to find one and others will spend a fortune to have a rebuilt example in their driveway.

Custom Autos, a tuning shop in Oklahoma, has been making new Ford Excursions for the past few years by combining the front and rear sections of the vehicle with the chassis of a 2016 Ford Super Duty pickup. They can build around 40 units per year, each one requiring two months of work.
Customers who bring their own chassis can expect to pay at least $40,000 USD; otherwise, the price goes up. Same thing if they opt for modern electronics, custom paints, a grille treatment or additional doors as shown on these pictures.
Shop owner Tim Huskey says most people spend between $50,000 and $100,000 for a rebuilt Ford Excursion.
Since 2016 Super Duty trucks are starting to run out and the new generation doesn’t work because of the aluminum, Huskey says he might have to turn to F-650 chassis soon and expects to continue to build custom Excursions for at least the next five years.
