“The Battista represents purity, beauty and rarity, and a vision for sustainability that appeals to the heart as much as the head,” said Michael Perschke, CEO, Automobili Pininfarina. It will be the most powerful car ever designed and built in Italy and will make you fall in love with electric power.”
Just how powerful? The number is set at a mind-boggling 1,900 horsepower. (For the record, the Bugatti Chiron offers 1,479 horsepower.) Pininfarina also mentions that the electric motor produces nearly 1,700 lb.-ft. of torque and allows a 0-100 km/h sprint in less than two seconds. That’s right. Meanwhile, the Rimac-developed battery technology provides a targeted range of 450 kilometres.
This is mounted in a carbon fibre body and chassis featuring a double-wishbone coil-over suspension and riding on bespoke Pirelli tires wrapped around stunning 21-inch alloys.
The engineering team behind the Pininfarina Battista is led by Rene Wollman, who will serve as sports car program director after recently working on the launch of another exceptional machine, the Mercedes-AMG ONE. Its test and development driver happens to be Nick Heidfeld, the former F1 driver who now races for Mahindra in Formula E.
Looking to become the world’s most desirable electric car as well, the new Battista was presented in three distinct and elegant design specifications and colours: a Blu Iconica Battista featuring the Iconica by Automobili Pininfarina design pack; a Grigio Luserna satin grey car with satin blue accents and anodized aluminium detailing; and a third Battista in a pure pearlescent white called Bianco Sestriere.
The Battista will be limited to a single production run of 150 units, all hand-built in Italy at Pininfarina’s Cambiano headquarters. It should retail for about $2.5 million in Canada.
In Eastern Canada, Pfaff Automotive Partners in Vaughan, ON will have the exclusive distribution rights. Expect another group to be announced soon for Western Canada.
