Chrysler's Sale to Fiat Stayed by US Supreme Court

After news that Chrysler’s remaining assets would be divided up amongst the various interested parties, Italian automaker Fiat was obviously eager to get their hands on their percentage of the Chrysler pie. Having announced plans (complete with timelines) to bring their attractive 500 hatchback into North America, Fiat may be counting on an early takeover of Chrysler to go through with their plans to bring their lineup into the continent.

However, those plans may be waylaid by the US Supreme Court, who has ordered a stay on the transfer of Fiat’s percentage of Chrysler. After three Indiana pension funds with stock in Chrysler took their case to the Supreme Court, the judge in charge of Chrysler’s division of assets had no choice to stop the division in the face of a potentially influential ruling regarding the futures of the Indiana shareholders.
