The new Hyundai KONA unveiled
As we announced back in April, the Hyundai Kona has been confirmed for the Canadian market. However, we still don’t know what powertrains we’ll be getting, although it will probably be the Atkinson-cycle 2.0-litre four that develops 149 metric horsepower and the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine that dishes out 177 metric horsepower. An all-wheel drivetrain will also be available.
Inside, we find soft-touch surfaces that bring a touch of refinement, while the black design elements give the KONA a rugged look. According to Hyundai, they’ll be plenty of interior space and outward visibility will be good all around. A choice of various accent colours to dress up the dashboard should be offered as well, blended with contrast stitching on the seats and the steering wheel.

The exterior offers no less than 10 paint colours, so we’ll have plenty to choose from. Dual headlight clusters with LED daytime running lights and the brand’s signature waterfall grille design bring an “expressive and muscular” look to the KONA, says Hyundai.
The SUV will obviously offer many safety features, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection. In addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a high-end Krell sound system with eight speakers should also be available.
Pricing has not yet been announced for Canada, but in our humble opinion, the subcompact KONA should be successful on our market.
