2018 Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster: We’re Driving it This Week
The Car Guide is heading to Phoenix in Arizona for a first crack at the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster, which will arrive in Canada in this summer. This new model replaces the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. In the United States and elsewhere, Mercedes-Benz will offer both the GT and GT C in Roadster configuration, but only the uplevel GT C will be sold in Canada. We’re not complaining…
The Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster boasts an aggressive front fascia, its grille being directly inspired by the 300SL Gullwing (W194) race car that won the famous Carrera Panamericana event in 1952. Several other design elements evoke a filiation with the recently launched Mercedes-AMG GT R. By checking out the interior, you’ll notice that the GT C Roadster’s cockpit is identical to the Coupe variant’s, aside from the headliner-mounted buttons have been moved down to the centre console. The soft top can be raised or lowered in about 11 seconds, and can be operated while the car is travelling at speeds of up to 50 km/h.
The GT C Roadster is equipped with a twin-turbo, 4.0-litre V8 that develops 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox. The car weighs 1735 kilograms, distributed 46.11% up front and 53.89% at the rear, according to Mercedes-AMG’s precision-obsessed engineers.
After we drive the new 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster, we’ll follow up with a complete report on The Car Guide. Stay tuned.
