2018 Lexus LS finally unveiled!

The LS was long overdue for a redesign, and Lexus finally presented the new generation at the Detroit Auto Show.

The full-size LS luxury sedan is what can be called a flagship vehicle, or essentially the one that demonstrates all the company’s latest technologies and know-how.

Although the brand doesn’t sell many units of the LS, it had to be redesigned sooner than later. It was getting long in the tooth, especially in a product range where all the other models are fresh and modern.

Everything’s new
We’re not talking about a simple revision here. Everything about the 2018 Lexus LS is new.

Its platform was designed to greatly “enhance” the LS’ agility and handling, in a time when Lexus is seeking to be a dynamic as the competition that includes the BMW 7 Series, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Audi A8 and all the other premium full-size sedans.

However, handling, as good as it can be, cannot guarantee the success of a car if the powertrain can’t follow.

For now, Lexus has announced only one such powertrain. It created a new twin-turbo, 3.5-litre V6 that develops 415 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a new-generation 10-speed automatic transmission, and Lexus expects the car will accelerate from 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.5 seconds, which would position the “LS 500” comfortably in its segment.

We’re assuming a hybrid powertrain will also be added at some point, as was the case in the previous generation, as well as all-wheel drive.

For now, it’s impossible to pronounce ourselves on the car before taking it for a test drive. But we like what we’re seeing so far of the 2018 Lexus LS.
