The 2017 Montreal International Auto Show
Montreal will be presenting the 49th edition of its auto show! This event, which started out very modestly, has become one of the most popular shows on our continent, and once again this year, it will be presenting several North-American vehicle debuts. As usual, the Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) will be the host of many very interesting features.
The Performance Zone, for example, has become a must and the vehicles on display in this section will undoubtedly put a smile on everyone’s face – or even shock some people. Can modifying cars to this extent be called art, or is it a sacrilege?
Electric vehicle test drives
Every year, in collaboration with the CAA, the MIAS offers its visitors the opportunity to test-drive vehicles around the Palais des congrès. This year, electric vehicles are highlighted, as the Chevrolet Volt, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, the Ford Focus Electric, the Nissan LEAF and the Kia Soul EV will be available. These drives are reserved to people aged 25 years and up who possess a valid driver’s licence. Proof of current vehicle insurance coverage is also required. The ride is about three kilometres long on city streets surrounding the Palais des congrès. To sign up, visitors can simply head to down to the test drive booth located in the Entry Hall on Level 2, near the promoter’s office. First come, first served.
You could win a 1968 Corvette
Last year, Le Guide de l’auto/The Car Guide gave away a 1967 Mustang that was fully restored by the students of the École des métiers de l’équipement motorisé de Montréal. The profits generated by ticket sales, which amounted to $25,550, were donated to stay-in-school foundations. This year, Le Guide de l’auto/The Car Guide team is at it again, this time restoring a 1968 Corvette, which will be raffled off during the 2018 edition of the MIAS. In the meantime, stop by their booth and see how the Corvette’s restoration is progressing. You can even purchase tickets to win it next year!
The Montreal International Auto Show will be held from January 20 to 29, 2017, at the Palais des congrès, located at 1001 Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle, Montreal, H2Z 1H5. The event is accessible by the Place-d’Armes Metro station, but it’s also possible to use the underground parking facilities ($20) or nearby public parking lots.
General admission costs $16. Students and seniors pay $13, while children aged 6 to 12 can get it for $6. It’s free for children under 6 years old. A family rate is also offered for $38 (two general and two child admissions).
