Sonny & Cher's Ford Mustangs Will Stay Together
In the sixties, one of the most well-known couples was Sonny and Cher, a duo that reached stardom when their song I Got You Babe hit the airwaves.
So does that have anything to do with the automotive world? Well, yeah: when they were popular, Sonny and Cher received a pair of customized 1966 Ford Mustang convertibles modified by George Barris.

Both cars received similar modifications: they received a front grille reminiscent of old Mopars and rectangular sealed beams (because back then, they looked much modern than round units). At the back, Ford Thunderbird’s taillights were added, making these cars a possible inspiration to the 1967 Shelby GT350.
The two convertibles were different on a few points: Sonny’s car was painted gold over brown and had an interior covered in shag carpeting imitating cow fur. Cher’s Mustang was pink with a white interior.
Both cars were auctioned at Barrett-Jackson’s last auction and sold to the same owner. Sonny’s convertible went under the gavel at USD$71,500, while Cher’s could only fetch USD$55,000.
