Mercedes-AMG: A Roadgoing Formula 1 Engine

Throughout the years, some of the most desirable supercars were fitted with technologies that came directly from Formula 1 racing. For example, the Ferrari Enzo used a lot of carbon fibre, while a lot of advancements in aerodynamics can be attributed to the racing series.

We know that trying to commercialize a real Formula 1 for the street would be pretty much impossible; there is too much safety issues, restrictions for fuel consumption… However, adapting an F1 engine for a production vehicle might be more doable.

This is why Mercedes-Benz wants to develop a new supercar that will adopt a lightly modified version of their turbocharged V6 currently used in Formula 1.

With a displacement of 1.6 litres, you may think that power won’t be that impressive. However, the little powerplant will be able to rev up to 11,000 rpm. We can expect around 1000 horsepower out of it. According to Tobias Moers, AMG’s director, every single component of this car will be unique to it. Pricing should hover around USD$2,000,000.
