All you need to know about the 2016 Cadillac CT6
After unveiling the CT6 at last year's New York International Auto Show, Cadillac is ready to begin delivering the range-topping sedan to dealers this month.
Expect an in-depth review on the upcoming season of Motoring TV, but for now here's all you need to know about Cadillac's new flagship sedan.
1. It's big
At 204 inches—exactly 17 feet—long, the CT6 is less than three inches shorter than the extended wheelbase Jaguar XJL.
Its wheelbase, too, is only slightly shorter than that of the XJL, while the overall height and width is on par with the midsize 2016 Chevrolet Malibu.
It's elongated proportions do leave the CT6 a little on the heavy side, tipping the scales at as much as 4,085 lbs. depending on driveline.
2. Choices galore
When it comes to the CT6's drivetrain, the key word is 'choice'.
Not one, not two, but three engines are available, two of them being new, while the sedan can also be had in the choice of rear- or all-wheel drive depending on what's under the hood.
The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, available throughout Cadillac's lineup, including the ATS Coupe, makes an estimated 265 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, all of which goes to the rear wheels.
Fuel economy is rated at 11 L/100 km in the city, and 7.6 L/100 km on the highway, and premium fuel is recommended though not required.
An all-new 3.6-litre naturally-aspirated V6 is rated at 335 horsepower and 284 lb.-ft. of torque, and puts power down to all four wheels.
Running on regular fuel, mileage is slightly higher at 12.8 L/100 km city and 8.7 L/100 km highway.
The most powerful engine available in the CT6 is a new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 that puts out 404 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.
Like the non-turbocharged V6, the 3.0-litre only comes in an all-wheel drive layout.
Premium fuel is required, with fuel economy numbers of 13 L/100 km in the city and 9 L/100 km on the highway.
All engines come mated to eight-speed automatic transmissions.
3. Price gap
With the engine and drivetrain configurations available, not to mention four trim levels to choose from, the CT6's price range is vast to say the least.
Base models start at $63,195, including freight, while the CT6 Platinum with the twin-turbocharged V6 under the hood goes for $101,620 with freight.
