Idle-stop standard on all 2017 Ford F-150 EcoBoost models
Ford says its idle-stop technology will be standard on all EcoBoost-equipped F-150s by the 2017 model year, which it claims "could represent more than 60 per cent" of sales by the time it rolls around.
Already standard on the 2016 F-150 with the 2.7-litre EcoBoost engine, Ford says idle-stop will be added to the rest of the EcoBoosted F-150 lineup by next model year, including the high-output 3.5-litre in the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor.
Ford's version of the technology, dubbed Auto Start-Stop, shuts off the engine when the vehicle is at a stop—except when towing or when four-wheel drive is engaged, according to the automaker.
The technology's biggest benefit is an environmental one, with decreased idling times cutting CO2 emissions.
Ford was quick to note that "actual fuel savings vary depending on driving patterns."
