2017 Fiat 124 Spider unveiled at L.A. Auto Show
This is the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider.
Based on the 2016 Mazda MX-5, the 124 Spider is based on the 1966 original and sports similar proportions and styling to that car.
Powered by a 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder 140 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque, the latter being 20 per cent more than the new MX-5 and its 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder.
Whether that translates to a quicker car remains to be seen, with the Mazda sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in a respectable 7.6 seconds.
Curb weight of the 124 Spider also remains a secret, though for perspective, the MX-5 tips the scales at just 2,377 lbs.
The 124 Spider should go on sale some time in early 2016, with pricing likely in the neighbourhood of the MX-5's mid-$30,000s sticker.
This, of course, also says nothing of the new Alfa Romeo Spider Fiat Chrysler is said to be developing in-house.
