BMW unveils throwback 3.0 CSL Hommage R
When BMW stormed onto the North American stage in 1975, it did so in a specially-made BMW 3.0 CSL race car.
Now, 40 years later, it's taking the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance by storm with the world premiere of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R, a car that celebrates both the 40th anniversary of BMW in North America and the racing success of the original car in 1975.
Before BMW fans get too worked up, we have some bad news: The automaker released no details about what underpins this gorgeous coupe.
The car undoubtedly looks great—the BMW Motorsport livery goes a long way in achieving that—but no drivetrain information was provided.
BMW said the car brings "a new level of driver focus," with everything inside the CSL Hommage R designed from the left seat out.
Outside, the stretched body and exterior accessories all provide a modern twist on the IMSA racing version of the original BMW 3.0 CSL that ran roughshod over the competition, including a win at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Here's to hoping this is the first of many appearances for the CSL Hommage R.
