Volvo buys Polestar, plans to expand use of name
Volvo fans can expect to see more models wearing the Polestar badge after the Swedish automaker announced it has purchased the performance firm.
According to Volvo, it has purchased 100 per cent of Polestar Performance and Polestar Holdings, the latter of which owns the rights to naming rights and trademarks.
It said it has not acquired the racing division of the company, which will remain under the control of Christian Dahl.
Volvo said the Polestar brand will continue to work alongside Dahl and his team, which is set to be renamed.
With the deal in place, Volvo said Polestar will be used as the model name for special high performance Volvos.
The performance division will also use Volvo's twin-engine electrification technology to develop next generation performance cars.
