Kia, Hyundai score highly in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study
Korean automakers Kia and Hyundai continue to ascend the automotive ranks, with both brands placing in the top five in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality Study.
Kia, with 86 problems per 100 vehicles, ranked second overall of the 33 brands rated in the IQS, while Hyundai, with 95 problems per 100 vehicles, placed fourth.
The industry average for 2015 is 112 problems per 100 vehicles.
Kia and Hyundai were joined by premium company in the top five, with Porsche and its 80 problems per 100 vehicles landing the top spot, while Jaguar and Infiniti place third and fifth overall, respectively.
Kia saw its Initial Quality Study score improve 20 points compared to 2014, with the automaker jumping four places.
The Soul and Sorento, two of Kia's top-selling nameplates, scored tops in their respective segments, while the Rio, Optima, Cadenza, Sportage and Sedona models all ranked in their segments' top three.
