It's Jaguar Land Rover's turn in the Takata Airbag Saga

The Takata airbag recall saga is still ongoing. In North America alone, there are close to 35 million cars containing tens of million faulty inflators. Globally, roughly 100 million cars and trucks from various automakers are equipped with potentially dangerous inflators that have been sold by the company.

So far, the airbags have been linked to approximately a dozen deaths and more than 130 injuries. As you might imagine, the costs related to the recalls is in the hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions. The vast majority of carmakers have unknowingly sold cars with the affected product going as far back as 16 or 17 years. BMW, for instance, used Takata airbags in some of their 3 Series cars from 2000 to 2013.

This time, it’s Jaguar Land Rover’s turn to send out notices, in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act’s requirements. Owners of some 2009-2011 Jaguar XF and 2007-2011 Range Rover units are being advised that their passenger-side airbag may be defective. Because of the scale of the issue, it will be split into four phases and run through to 2019. And this is solely for JLR products.
