Tesla's Plan Enters Phase Two
Back when Tesla Motors was founded, Elon Musk had a four-part plan:
- Create a low-volume car, which would necessarily be expensive
- Use that money to develop a medium-volume car at a lower price
- Use that money to create an affordable, high-volume car
- Provide solar power.
That was 10 years ago. The manufacturer managed to reach their three first steps (they are actually working on the third as we speak), and they just announced changes in their lineup for the fourth to become a reality.

During a meeting, Elon Musk announced Phase Two of its plan. Here is the new four-part plan of Tesla (which isn’t named Tesla Motors anymore, just Tesla).
The first point concerns the development of solar panels coupled with batteries. Tesla is currently expanding the operation of their Powerwall battery, and Solar City is coming up with new panels.
The second point is about Tesla’s lineup; the brand wants to be present in more high-volume segments, seeing as they are currently only into luxury sedans and high-price SUVs. In the future, they are planning a compact SUV as well as a new type of pickup truck. The brand also wants to optimize their factories to build more vehicles. Finally, Tesla will build a semi-truck, believe it or not.
Third point: develop an autonomous system 10 times safer than a human driver. To do this, they need to work on their Autopilot system.
Finally, the fourth point wants to transform your car in a mobile autonomous taxi. When you don’t use it, you can add it to a fleet of Teslas that will transport people around. When you need it, simply call it back.
