More BMWs Affected by Takata Recall

We haven’t talked about it for a few weeks now, but the Takata airbag scandal isn’t done yet: more than 104,000 vehicles from BMW have been added to the long casualty list in Canada.

As a reminder, the problem is located in the airbag’s inflator. In the affected vehicles, said inflator can detonate with too much force during a collision. This can rip apart the whole system and send shrapnel in the occupant’s face. This is a very obvious safety concern.

There is a long list of affected BMW vehicles: the 2006 3 Series, the 2007 X3 and X5, the X6 and 1 Series of 2008 and the 2012 X1.

Depending on the vehicle, BMW dealerships will either replace the inflator or the whole assembly.

If you own one of those BMWs, you should receive a letter inviting you make an appointment with your nearest dealer.
