2017 Porsche Macan gets Four-Cylinder Power
A new base trim level will be added to the Macan lineup for the 2017 model year. Four-cylinder engines have recently been introduced in the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models, and now it's the compact SUV's turn to get such a powertrain.
The base 2017 Porsche Macan will feature a turbocharged, 2.0-litre inline four that develops 252 horsepower as well as 273 lb.-ft. of torque that peaks from 1,600 to 4,500 r/min. As with every other version of the SUV, it will be managed by a seven-speed PDK automated transmission and an active all-wheel drivetrain. The vehicle will weigh 1770 kilograms, making it the lightest utility vehicle produced by Porsche so far.
This new powertrain, which differs from the one introduced in the Porsche 718, will propel the Macan from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 229 km/h. However, it will also allow the vehicle to consume an average of 9.3 L/100 km—about a litre less than with the turbo six-cylinder engines of the S, GTS and Turbo variants.
The base Macan’s standard feature list will be quite similar to what’s found in the S trim level, including an eight-way power driver’s seat, Alcantara seat inserts, the latest generation of the Porsche Communication Management system, lane-departure warning and a power tailgate. The options list will include an air suspension with load levelling as well as the brand’s PASM adaptive dampers.
The 2017 Porsche Macan equipped with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be on sale in July. Its base price is set at $52,700 before freight and delivery charges, or $6,500 less than the Macan S.
