2017 Hyundai Elantra: We’re Discovering It This Week
If you still doubt about the importance of the Elantra in Hyundai’s product portfolio, know that it’s not only their best-selling vehicle, but has been the second best-selling car in Canada for a few years now, right behind the Honda Civic. No wonder the Korean brand is giving this model a lot of attention, especially when the time comes to redesign it.
It’s an important year for the Elantra, since the sixth-generation model is arriving with a fresh wardrobe and a new powertrain. We’ll be traveling to the Vancouver region this week for our first drive of the 2017 Elantra that made its world debut at the last Los Angeles Auto Show. From a styling standpoint, the car’s lines were reworked, although some feel the 2017 edition looks a little generic compared to the outgoing generation. The redesigned and more modern cockpit should be considered a unanimous improvement with better ergonomics, a squared-off dashboard and a total revamp of the switchgear.
Mechanically, we’ll get the opportunity to try out its new 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that’s slightly more powerful than the previous base powertrain. Can these few extra ponies handle the fractionally bigger car? Will the Elantra continue to stand out thanks to its great value? You’ll soon find out when we present our full test of the compact sedan in a few days.
