The 2017 Genesis G90 Hits Detroit

Hyundai recently announced that they would shift two of their vehicles (the Equus and the Genesis) into a newly-created luxury brand: Genesis. At the Detroit Auto Show, we saw the very first vehicle that will wear the new badge, the G90.

With a total length of 5.2 metres (10 cm longer than the Equus it replaces), the G90 has been designed to coddle its occupants; rear passengers will have 96 cm of legroom.

Powertrains are left to the buyer’s discretion. A twin-turbo, 3.3-litre V6 comes standard and develops 365 horsepower, but if you want more punch, you can get a 5.0-litre V8 with 420 horsepower and 383 pound feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes with both engines, and an AWD system is also available. The latter can send up to 40% of available power to the front wheels, up to 90% to the rear axle in Sport mode, or even completely deactivate the front differential for better fuel economy.

Comfort obviously is an important aspect of this car: the G90 driver’s seat is adjustable in 22 positions, while the front passenger will “only” get 16 adjustments. The rear seats are designed to provide their occupants with maximum comfort, and they get heat and ventilation functions. Finally, everyone will enjoy the 17-speaker Lexicon sound system.

The Genesis G90 should arrive on the market in 2016; we will get an exact release date in the coming months.
