McLaren 675LT Spyder : For Open-Top Racers
Usually, the very idea of a convertible that has been optimized for track racing is counterintuitive: not only does a retractable roof add weight and complexity, but more than a few tracks won't even allow a convertible to race – for obvious safety reasons.
This didn't stop McLaren for unveiling a Spyder version of its 675LT, the brand's fastest production supercar (apart from the P1, which is in a class all by itself).
Obviously based on the 675LT coupe, the Spyder comes with the same twin-turbo, 3.8-litre V8; thanks to a few upgrades (a new crankshaft, lighter connecting rods and optimized heads), this engine now boasts no less than 666 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
While the 675LT Spyder is technically heavier than the coupe, it still is ludicrously quick: it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, will hit 200 km/h in 8.1 seconds and top out at 326 km/h... even with the top down.
The 675LT comes standard with stiffer suspensions, wider front and rear track, a longer airbrake as well as Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tires. There is no A/C, but you can get it fitted as a no-expense option... as long as you don't lugging 16 kilos of extra weight around.
To enjoy the stellar performance of this convertible, you'll have to be prepared to pay up: only 500 units will ever be built, and the total invoice will amount to more than $388,900 USD.
