2016 Nissan Sentra: Skin-deep Redesign
At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan just unveiled the all-new 2016 Nissan Sentra. Refreshed would be a better term!
First of all, the company’s designers modernized the front end with styling that closely resembles the bigger Altima and Maxima sedans. At the back, aside from redesigned taillights, changes are very discreet. The improvements in the car’s cockpit are just as subtle, with a new steering wheel, a reworked centre stack and a new shift lever. Finally, the display screen is now of the TFT (Thin Film Transistor) type, so its resolution should be better. Well, that’s about it as far as changes go.
Under the hood, the same good old powertrain soldiers on. It’s a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 130 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. Most versions will be equipped with a continuously variable automatic transmission, although S and SV trims can be had with a six-speed manual.
For this massaged Sentra, Nissan’s engineers firmed up the suspension by 10%, while the chassis is stiffer and the electric power steering has been recalibrated. Nissan also mentioned a tire design, which probably means they changed providers… we can’t wait to feel the difference.
For the 2016 model year, the Sentra will be offered in S, SV, SR and SL trim levels, so no changes there either. Pricing has not yet been announced.
