No More Speed Limits On The Nürburgring
A few months ago, an accident on the Nurburgring Nordschleife caused the track’s owners to put speed limits on certain sections. After a Nissan GT-R flew off the track and hit a security barrier, killing a spectator in the process, some sections of the track were speed-limited at up to 250 km/h.
However, the limits have just been removed. From now on, racers and manufacturers (as well as the occasional weekend warriors that try their luck on the circuit) can go as fast as they want. There will be a few modifications to the track, as per the FIA’s orders: some sections will get additional barriers, while the infamous Flugplatz, a straight section that slowly crests up before going down abruptly, will be worked over, and a 500-metre section will be smoothed, removing five bumps that have been created over years of hard use.
The circuit’s owners will make sure that regardless of the changes, the track’s particular personality will remain as is.
