This Is The 2017 Ford Super Duty
After Ford unveiled its all-new 2016 Ford F-150, we figured that its bigger brother the Super Duty would follow suit. As expected, Ford has just provided us with some information regarding its 2017 HD pickup trucks.
The grille is probably the elephant in the room here. On that particular front, I’m sure Ford just won the Biggest Truck Fascia competition. Is it good-looking, though? That’s for you to decide…
Just like the F-150, the Super Duty gets an aluminium body; in fact, it’s the exact same cabin, but the fenders and the hood are unique to this model. Ford announced that they managed to make the truck 158 kg lighter than it was last year thanks to the aluminum, and even better, it is supposedly more resistant to dings and bumps.
Since the cabin is shared with the F-150, the interior pretty much carries over as well, and we can expect roughly the same comfort options, like the huge moonroof that we see in the above pictures. The vehicle will also inherit the latest generation of Ford’s SYNC infotainment system, a blind-spot monitor that can detect objects hiding beside a trailer and no less than seven cameras around the truck.
Don’t fret about this newfangled aluminium, though: the Super Duty’s chassis is still made of high-strength steel (at 95%), and because it is now fully boxed, it is 24 times stiffer than it used to be.
We don’t have the exact specifications for the engines, but we do know that buyers will get to choose between a 6.2-litre V8, a 6.8-litre V10 and the 6.7-litre Power Stroke diesel V8. Technical data will be announced later, since the truck won’t come out until the end of 2016.
