Thunder Power Sedan: Another Challenger To The Tesla Model S
The problem with being the at the top of your segment is that everyone tries to throw you off the top of the mountain. What do the BMW M3, the Bugatti Veyron and the Ford F-150 have in common? They are the best-selling, most recognized vehicles in their respective segments, and pretty much every competitor is trying to beat them at their own game.
Take Tesla, for example. Following the success of the Californian brand, pretty much every single electric car concept that has come out has been heralded as a Tesla killer.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show, journalists from the world over saw a new concept car. It features unique styling by Zagato and is built by a manufacturer from Taiwan with a singular name. Meet the Thunder Power Sedan.
According to Thunder Power, there will be two versions of the Sedan: The base-model will get an electric motor developing 312 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. This is enough to get the car to 100 km/h from a standstill in around 6 seconds, and the 125 kWh battery should be enough to travel up to 650 kilometres on a single charge. There is also a fast recharge mode that can get you 300 km of range in 30 minutes, and a full charge in an hour.
The other version is a little faster; with its 435 horsepower, it will get to 100 km/h one second faster than the base model. It has the same range as the base model however.
Power Thunder still doesn’t have an exact launch date, but if I were you, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for it to develop a dealership network, develop a production line, make sure its car can pass crash testing…
