Car Theft In Quebec For 2014
Statistics Canada just published some numbers on stolen cars in Quebec; while there is still room for improvement, we can see that the situation is much better than it used to be.
Throughout the province, there were 15,200 vehicles stolen in 2014; this adds up to 42 vehicles per day, or one every 34 minutes.

That may seem like a lot, but it’s actually less than last year; this particular crime shrunk by 15%. Even better, if we compare to the last 5 years, there were 47% fewer car thefts. Lastly, 64% fewer cars were stolen this year compared to 2004.
Various reasons are stated as to why car theft is in decline, most notably the advent of car alarms, parts etching and GPS positioning systems that can track a vehicle wherever it is.
Montreal is obviously the most afflicted region with 223.95 thefts per 100,000 citizens; Trois-Rivieres follows with 122.60 thefts per 100,000 citizens and Saguenay is third with 103.75 thefts per 100,000 citizens.
