Diesel Honda Civic Beats Fuel Consumption Record
As you probably know, we don’t have the same Honda Civic as the one sold in Europe. Not only is theirs offered with a frugal little diesel engine, but it also has a wagon version.
Honda says that under ideal conditions, the diesel-powered Civic Tourer can sip fuel at a rate of 3.8 litres per 100 km. Eager to prove that these numbers were more than fiction, two members of the R&D team set off from Belgium on June 1st with one of the cars. 25 days later, they came back, having covered 13,498 kilometres. During the trip, they averaged 2.82 litres per 100 km, which is actually better than what Honda states.
The whole trip cost only 645 euros ($901) and the car even managed to travel 1,500 km on a single tank of fuel.
This was enough to beat the Guinness record for the best fuel consumption through the 24 contiguous EU countries.
And as a reminder, Honda thinks that we wouldn’t like this engine.
