VW Pads Both Ends Of Its Portfolio
Volkswagen’s empire stretches over pretty the entire automotive industry; whether you are talking about very affordable vehicles (like the VW Gol, not to be confused with the Golf), or about hyper luxurious vehicles (think Bentley), or even about the highest echelon of performance (Bugatti, anyone?), the automaker is in almost every segment.
In a recent announcement, Volkswagen’s CEO Martin Winterkorn said that he intended to expand its reach even more: First of all, VW will launch a more affordable sub-brand in China. At launch, there will be a small sedan, a hatchback and a crossover that will be sold for around 8-10,000 euros (so between $11,132 and $13,916 CAD). There are also talks of eventually exporting that brand to global markets if it does well.

At the other end of the spectrum, Volkswagen also confirmed there will be a hybrid Veyron; it will reportedly pack around 1,500 horsepower (from its 8-litre W16 and a pair of electric motors), get from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds, and hit a top speed of more than 450 km/h…
