Alfa Romeo’s Sexy New Sedan: The Giulia

The midsize luxury sedan market is starting to get more and more crowded. After seeing Jaguar bring their XE to the fray, it’s now Alfa Romeo’s turn to enter this competitive segment with an all-new sedan, the Giulia.

It was during a celebration in Milan that Alfa Romeo launched its most recent creation. Built to rival the BMW 3 Series, the car is the crowning achievement of 105 years of engineering.

At the moment, it’s the Giulia’s most powerful version, the Quadrofoglio, that is receiving all the attention. The car is powered by a six-cylinder (of unknown origin, configuration and displacement) that was fine-tuned by Ferrari engineers to generate 510 horsepower; the press release states that the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. It seems that an all-wheel drive system is available, but RWD comes standard.

Alfa Romeo's engineers pushed the car’s dynamics as far as they could, announcing that the Giulia has a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Overall weight was also reduced as much as possible with a roof, hood and prop shaft made out of carbon fibre, while the engine block is aluminium. This all adds up to the Giulia having a weight-to-power ratio of 3 kg per HP.
