Takata Recall: 2001-2005 Honda Civic Added To The List
The most recent addition to the infamous Takata recall is an especially popular model: the 2001-2005 Honda Civic (and the 2003-2007 Accord).
These cars were built with a Takata-branded airbag, which contains a faulty inflator. In a crash hard enough to activate the car’s passive safety system, said inflator could explode, sending shrapnel into the passenger’s face.
Overall, 1.39 million cars will be recalled. Initially, only 350,000 vehicles were targeted, but the proof of a seventh death linked to Takata airbags forced them to include more Hondas.
Kylan Langlianais, from Lafayette, Louisiana, succumbed to her wounds after being hit with parts from her Civic’s airbag. Honda had previously added her car to a list of potentially dangerous vehicles in June 2014, but didn’t announce it until April 2nd.
